Parkinson's
Parkinsons disease can result in a variety of symptoms affecting your mobility, causing pain, stiffness and reducing balance. It is a long term condition that progresses over time. Often everyday activities such as turning over in bed or managing buttons can become difficult. Early intervention allows us to identify specific issues and work with you to reduce the impact on your daily life. We can work with you and your family on an individual basis, in clinic, at home or any other setting in which you need to be able to function effectively. Our long term management approach also means we can continue to work with you as your condition changes.
Research has shown that exercise, done regularly, helps improve many symptoms and may even slow progression. Programmes specifically designed to address the issues in Parkinsons advocate the use of large amplitude, powerful movements to challenge the chemical effects of the disease on the brain. We currently run exercise sessions based on the PD Warrior Approach which is one such programme. Inclusion is based on an initial individual assessment to identify your specific needs. The programme is designed to change your exercise habits over a ten week period whilst improving your movement control and balance. These small group sessions have proved to be very supportive for the clients who attend. Further useful information can be found at https://www.parkinsons.org.uk or https://parkinsonscare.org.uk |
